AGM Report

I have been instructed to give a report on the National AGM by Sue as she thinks that she has done her bit by reporting on the Area Liaison Meeting, all I can say is I’m glad she still made some notes for me to follow!

Always first on the Agenda is the Chairman’s welcome, and ofcourse you all know that John Fry is the MMOC Chairman? Well you do don’t you??????

Joking apart and perhaps getting this bit of info out of order John has been the National Chairman for the last 31 years!!!! That only happened because they were all stood in a circle in 1978 in a field when the National Rally was always then run in conjunction with the AGM someone asked for a nomination for Chairman. His then wife (he has proudly had four. I may demand another myself if she keeps this up)! gave him an almighty shove in the back towards the person who was asking for Chairman nominations, and the rest as they say is ‘History’!!!!

The National Club have several awards that they give out every year at this meeting -:

The John Weaver Memorial Trophy

Sadly John died at the age of 40 but his family because of his interest in the Morris Minor wanted to donate something in his memory. This trophy is given annually to someone who has consistently raised the profile of the MM by fund raising, good works and being an excellent ambassador. It went this year to a super couple from West Yorkshire Branch Charles and Irene Jones.

The Pete & Sheila Ball Trophy

This is one of the best as it’s always given to someone who does something really daft! Who better to get it this year than Mike Dean of Lincolnshire Branch!!

The Jack Daniels Trophy

Jack Daniels (if you don’t know your MM history) was Sir Alec Issigonis right hand man – where Issigonis was said to be the inspiration Daniels was the perspiration! So basically this award is for going the extra mile and hard work. This year it went to Stephen Morris the new editor of Minor Matters who since being Ed has really lifted the magazine as I’m sure you will agree.

Unfortunately because of pressures of his day job he is having to stand down, but if you read your last issue of Minor Matters you will have seen an article from Nicola Parkins who is hopefully going to take over.

In his report Ray Newell stated that there was now 31% of the National membership that are in the Senior Citizen bracket and that over all the club is an aging club, so it has been decided that there will no longer be concessions for senior Citizen membership so new members will pay the same a every one else but for existing SC’s they will only go up by £1, this caused a bit of a flutter, but unfortunately things don’t run on fresh air although basic subs for the rest of us are staying the same.

For all those who are now insured by Footman James they are extending their services by way of Household Insurance especially for classic car owners.

If any of you fancy putting your car into the Concours arena there is now a full information pack being produced for potential entrants.

The last major survey of the Classic Car scene was done in 2003 – there is to be a review of this in 2010 and will be done on line. Feedback from this will help the future of the MMOC. So we will need to keep our eye out for it so that we can get it filled in.

March 2013 sees 60 years of the Light Commercials, which you all know are my chosen MM. It also sees 60 years of the Traveller.

I know that Sue will receive full minutes of the meeting and will bring them along as soon as she does so that you can all have a read for yourselves.

This article was just to give you a quick flavour of how things went.

Chris
