The 2007 Yorkshire Floods.........
Chris and Keith Haig came home from a relaxing week in their caravan to find that their house was under several inches of water.........Their decking had been washed down the garden and had been deposited at the door to their conservatory, inside the floors and decoration were ruined...........In the true spirit of Branch camaraderie Sue and Dave Cook from North East Branch came down to give them a hand to move furniture and possessions into a safer place. We offered to take the Moggy's to safety - but we were assured that this had been taken care of. Now it's just a case of 'the big clean up'....... Good Luck Guy's Jackie and Graham were stranded in their house in Hutton Cranswick as the village was cut off by the massive amounts of water flowing down the road. It only got to their front door - luckily it didn't quite get into the house. They had no electricity and had to resort to using a camping stove to keep everyone in the family fed. Chris and I were 'land locked' after the Wansford canal broke it's banks -
many of the villagers had to be rescued and evacuated to higher
ground..........Chris had been to Bridlington but had to abandon our van at the
other side of the village and wade home almost waist deep in water with a very
sad and The thing that saved our house from flooding was our newly dug pond - which had no water in it up until the storms........ presently it holds about 30,000 gallons! See picture of Chris having a swim........ Ofcourse we have members from all round the region so I am sure there must be more tales to tell if anyone would like to let us know............
