  Morris Minor Owners Club
For Everyone Interested in Morris Minors Owners or Not

Hi Guy’s

We are really taking off for the season now. Our Host Day at Hornsea Freeport was a great success with 15 cars plus other visitors. The weather was kind and we had a lot of interest shown in the cars, infact so much so that Norman and Jean even sold ‘Chester’. This was sad for all of us, especially Chris and I as we have followed that little Minor the length and breadth of the country and even over the water in the last six years! I am sure he has gone to a good home though (watch this space). It was also nice to see Steve and Jody, specially Jody’s very chic new look!

All the management and staff at Hornsea were brilliant as usual and even rescued our Branch Banner that we left tied to one of their trees over night! They have invited us back again next year if we would like to go as our cars are a very popular attraction for them.

Chris has acquired a new Morris – for all of you who know him he does tend to favour the commercial side of the Morris production………..a 1953 Morris Commercial Lorry, very nice condition and from what we can gather quite a rarity now as there are only 20 known left in the world? If there is anyone out there who knows more perhaps you could drop us an email? We picked it up from Wales, only one petrol tank was working as the other hadn’t been ‘flushed’ for years. The tanks hold 10 gallons of petrol each so with only one in operation it was a case of keep filling up. This we found brings its own pitfalls as lorry parks in Motorway Services (can’t take it in to the car park because of size) only sell diesel!!

Anyway we managed eventually and at 50mph and several fill ups got home in around six hours……….glutens for punishment we then took it to North Lincs Rally at Sandtoft Trolly Bus Museum. It pelted down with rain going only for us to find we had no working window wipers! When we eventually arrived it created quite a large amount of interest to say the least. Chris at Tom-Roy was pleased we’d bought it as my Chris was like a kid in a sweet shop at their van!!

Bertha (that’s the name) came in handy to have our lunch in though as the weather decided to let the day down big style five of us piled in the back to keep dry – some with the aide of steps kindly lent by Tom-Roy (can you recognise this woman)???

My first official duty as Area 1 Liaison Officer was to go to Ambleside in the Lake District on Saturday to help with the set up and first inaugural meeting of a brand new Branch of the MMOC, the Cumbria Branch. It was a very productive and successful day, this was mainly due to all the hard work that Steve Rose Chairman of Lancashire Branch has put in over the past few months. (anyone with a Lancashire Branch fundraising calendar from last year will have seen quite a lot of Steve in the month of July and the back page)!  There was a lot of interest shown and around 30 people actually attended the meeting. We even managed to get all committee officers in place. So I am sure that we all wish them luck and hope that they have as good a time as we do at our meetings and out and about.

Sunday saw me in my second official role at the Barnsley Branch Rally at Cannon Hall doing the official Prize giving and helping to man the excellent Tom bola stall, it was a really good day out with some great cars, and it was good to see people that we hadn’t seen for ages.

I do know that some of you went off to Burton Agness, it is a shame when events clash as I would very much liked to have gone to both. From what I can gather though we had the best weather!

Sunday is our fund raising day for Marie Curie with our run upto Flask. I do know that there are quite a few of our local Marie Curie Branch coming along with us as they enjoyed themselves so much last year. Lets just hope that the weather stays fine and dry this time!!!

Hope to see you all at tonight’s meeting.

Sue, Pebbles & Smarti  xx
