Chairman's Notes  -  February 2008

Hands up how many have stuck to their New Years Resolutions? I made a conscious effort not to make any this year so I didn’t have to beat myself up by breaking them……..I wouldn’t say that it isn’t still in the back of my mind to try being healthier, to lose some weight and be a calmer person, none of it’s worked so far so perhaps I was right not to make them into resolutions…………

Here we are motoring (pardon the pun) along into the year, February all ready, lets hope that Spring is now just around the corner, the nights are drawing out again thank goodness. I don’t know about you but I find that I get very little done when it gets dark early.

As our last meeting was our AGM I am pleased to welcome Ian as our new Branch Secretary, I am sure that we now have a new driving force on the committee and that we will give him any help and support that he might ask from us. The rest of the committee members were willing to carry on and stand again so things have stayed pretty much the same. Although don’t forget any one with any ideas of things that they would like to do or see happen with the Branch please have your say at the meetings or with one of the committee members (all contact details are on the website www.woldsmmoc.org.uk) after all it is everyone’s club, and your input is always valuable. The Committee just try to steer it all along…………Ian has now been in touch with Maurice and has retrieved the appropriate Branch material, contacts etc……..

Our post Christmas meal at the Trout Inn was a great success, the 21 of us that went thoroughly enjoyed ourselves – the food was excellent and we were treated to some very funny monologues read by Chris H and a special recitation by Sandy Hamilton as it also happened to fall on Burns Night. It was also lovely to see Norman (looking as handsome as ever) after his ‘ups and downs’ in the last couple of months or so.

I had a nice long chat with Lisa (Steve and Lisa Gough) the other day, she rang to touch base and say that they were still ‘alive and kicking’ but that due to their work commitments they found it difficult to get to meetings, although they do scan our website regularly to keep up to date. Mind you if there is an impromptu drive going on hopefully someone taking part will remember to give them a quick ring to see if they have the time to go or are working (I do have their telephone number for any genuine member who would like it). They will be at our March meeting (unless they have a change of hours). Any way they want to say Hello and Happy New Year to everyone.

We have finally got someone to rectify our ‘Tornado’ damage, the only thing is since they started work at the end of last month we have had nothing but gale force winds so nothing seems to be getting very far………..

Tim and Pam have planned us a very detailed and concise Daffodil Run for the 13th April, we do need to know club member numbers who want to go as we are planning a pub lunch at the end. This ofcourse doesn’t stop any other MMOC Branch taking part on behalf of our run, as all are welcome but you might have to take ‘pot luck’ at he pub on lunch, or unless you can let us know PDQ. Tim and Pam are so good at planning routes (if ever I get lost or happen to get ‘captured’ in the future I want one of them with me)!!!! Please don’t forget that the lady from Marie Curie is coming to Monday nights meeting to talk us through the different things that they can help us with on this MMOC Million Mile Challenge. This awful disease can affect anyone and I am sure it has probably touched us all in one way or another, so it is worth giving it the best we can.

Chris, Pebbles and I are going to the Area 1 meeting on Sunday 10th Feb, so there may be something to report from there. I can slip this in as and when.

Hopefully we will get a good turn out at this month’s meeting, because we really want everyone’s ideas for the Million Mile Challenge as the Daffodil Run is our main feature for the Notional MMOC, there is nothing to say that as club members we can’t find ways of gathering more events.

Take care,

Sue & Pebbles x
