Morris Minor Owners Club

Chairman's Notes  - August 2008

The last few weeks seem have been an extremely hectic time with the Moggies. Chris, Pebbles and I don’t seem to have had a weekend at home for ages, I am starting to feel a bit like a Gypsy!!!

I must just say a big thank you to everyone who attended our Branch Rally at The Grange you all made it a great success, the weather ofcourse did play its part so we were really lucky to have the hottest weekend of the year, not a cloud in the sky .I have received some really nice feed back from people who had never attended one of our Rallies before to say what a great atmosphere there was all weekend and how good the facilities were. We also gained some new members, Roger and Debs along with their very friendly German Shepherd dog Amy from Thornton-le-Dale. So once again to all involved, this success was down to you. There will be a picture gallery of this event on the web site.

Chris, Pebbles and I went off the following weekend to the Lincolnshire Branch Rally at Revesby. This Rally is always teamed up with Revesby Country Fair which is very well attended by the public from miles around. It is a typical country fair with every sort of stall and craft tent you can imagine plus clay shooting. This year we took far more notice of the poultry tent than usual. I never thought that I could get so attached to them but now we have our own ‘chucks’ it’s so interesting to see the different varieties, sizes and colours. Unfortunately Revesby also clashes with Pickering Steam Fair, but this year we were represented their by Paul and Sheena and also Richard who goes every year without fail………

We were going to Driffield Steam Fair which ofcourse is a much smaller event but it didn’t seem that we had missed out too much doing it this way. Paul, Sheena, Chris and I plus Pebbles and Alfie camped three miles down the road from home for this event, Chris rode all the way there and back on his Ferguson Tractor as this was dream to do the Parade through Driffield on the Saturday night. This was all held up as there was a nasty incident in the town centre and the Police wouldn’t let us go, but finally we got off in clouds of steam, I was driving Mabel with Pebbles. The crowds lining the streets were fantastic and you just couldn’t move in the town main street. We had an hours pit stop there before heading back to BBQ. Unfortunately the weather rather let it all down but we still very much enjoyed the weekend. Again please check out Photos.

Chris had a lucky escape last week, it was pouring with rain the breaks failed on our Navara and he ploughed straight across Foston Crossroads taking out a small white van on the way over and damaging our front end – no one was hurt luckily but this was really only by a miracle as this particular road is so busy…………

Some of our members are going up to the North East this weekend to camp and visit Beamish this has all been organised by Sue Cook Chairman of the North East Branch so we are looking forward to that. I always enjoy going up there as they know how to have a good time – for my sins I have volunteered to run the Karaoke and Morris Memorabilia Auction evening on Saturday – watch this space…………

As you may be aware Ian our secretary has had to stand down for personal reasons, so if there are any members out their that fancy giving it a practice run until the AGM in January please let me know as being Secretary is not ‘Rocket Science’ and you will get plenty of help and support.

Take Care and Happy Minoring.
