Inaugural BAR TO BAR Rally 6th September 09 Chris and I had a house full at the weekend with friends who had come to join us in taking part in this new inaugural rally. Chris and Keith Haigh from Barnsley, Sue and Dave Cook from the North East, Lou and Charlie Edwards from Derby and last but certainly not least Brian Newham. We were initially approached about taking part in this event about three/four months ago, and as everyone knows there are just not enough weekends in the MM summer calendar to fit in all the events that one would like to go to! So after much discussion the 6th of September was decided on. It was then a case of planning and putting out feelers to see who would like to take part. We had a lot of emails and phone calls going back and forth with the odd meeting thrown in with the PR firm run by Mike and Louise who have taken on the job of promoting The Bay at Filey. Although we had had a lot of interest shown it was a case of ‘suck it and see’ on the day. We needn’t have worried however as we had a really great turn out.
The Police had closed Beverley centre for us and stopped all the traffic lights so that we could all pass through the Bar in a long convoy on our way to the ‘new’ Bar at The Bay. It must have been a stunning sight, as even looking back through the wing mirrors of the Pick Up it looked amazing. I haven’t seen the official photo shoot yet but it is going to be in all the news so I think it will be hard to miss. Although we have been promised all the relevant material, so when I get them they will posted on the website.
Once we
were all in place we moved into the John Paul Jones Inn for a complementary full
(and I mean full) hot buffet English style Breakfast that had Some of us walked down to the beach to look at the really stunning views, others sat and relaxed in the sunshine outside the Inn. I was sorry that I had eaten so much at breakfast as the Sunday Lunches looked very appetizing! We started to make our way home about 3.30pm with a detour to Lebberston for coffee and cakes at Tom and Jill Dixon’s lovely house and garden which incidentally also has some stunning views over the countryside. Chris
being in Bertha the Morris Commercial MRA1 we decided that the convoy We all had a really fantastic day out, and are now planning for the same event next year. |
